Mt. Hood Solutions Recognized as Partner by EPA’s
Design for the Environment (DfE) Program
Mt. Hood Solutions has been recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency as a Partner in the EPA’s Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI), which is part of the DfE Program.
Through SDSI, EPA’s DfE Program recognizes environmental leaders who voluntarily commit to the use of safer surfactants. Safer surfactants are surfactants that break down quickly to non-polluting compounds and help protect aquatic life in both fresh and salt water.
The DfE Program has identified safer alternative surfactants through partnerships with industry and environmental advocates. These safer alternatives are comparable in cost and are readily available.
“We are pleased to have been recognized by the EPA for our work in developing new product formulations that are both effective and environmentally friendly,” said Tom Mulflur, President of Mt. Hood Solutions. “This initiative is one of the ways we are working to develop a more innovative way of manufacturing and operating that have less impact on the environment, use less energy and reduce our carbon footprint.”
Additional initiatives undertaken by the company recently include the move to a new operational and manufacturing facility in North Portland that has a fully insulated warehouse for reduced energy consumption, the conversion of all forklifts to electricity and new energy efficient lighting that has been installed in the entire 85,000 square foot facility.
Mt. Hood Solutions has been in the business of making soaps, detergents and other cleaning products since 1902. The company serves hotels, restaurants, hospitals, manufacturing companies and wide variety of additional customers across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Northern California, Colorado and Northern Nevada. The company currently employs 110 people, with 45 located at the Portland headquarters.
